Smokey Smell

I noticed a smokey smell coming from the back of my car several weeks ago. I then found a plastic bag wrapped around the muffler just enough to be stuck. After removing it, the strong smell disappeared immediately but still lingers. I can only identify this smell when I stick my head near the muffler after driving around for a while and can faintly smell it when in the driver’s seat. It does not appear to be coming from the hood, tires or anywhere else, just the muffler. But why is it taking so long to burn off? Could it be something worse? Definitly smells like burning plastic and not anything else. THANK YOU!

It’s probably just some plastic still stuck to the muffler. It will go away eventually.
