He did not want to sell it for 1500 and he didnt.
I think it was an 83 honda civic station wagon manual shift. A long time ago I almost bought a tiny civic HB that achild could hold the radiator in one hand. It was up for sale for dirt cheap but it was so small.
People do that with Toyotas too. Another Car I looked at was 2009 Toyota Corolla. It had low mileage on it and it the previous owner of it took excellent car of it…Salesman produced the service records. The previous owner had always taken it to that dealership for oil changes and stuff. The reason I didn’t buy it was it was overpriced. I looked up Kelly Blue Book on it as well as a Black Book and they priced it 2k above value.
Well you got play hard ball back when your dealing with a lot of people. I havent had good experience with dealerships. Or private owners. My best experiences were with independent used car dealers with a shop and a lot.
Im not too impressed with records and the fact that the car was serviced at the dealer or not. Its the condition of the car and I feel if you dont know who your dealing with you should go over that car very well and take it to a mechanic who will really go over it well.
My best experiences were with independent used car dealers with a shop and a lot.
Really??? My experience is just the opposite…The independent used car dealer is usually the sleaze of the sleaze.
And ask alot of questions actually first thing. I once asked a private owner about his toyota for sale and he told me it uses alot of oil! I avoided wasting my time by asking him questions.
I knew one of the mechanics at the Toyota dealership. He always serviced my mom’s truck. He did a complete inspection on the car. The car was in mint conditon. I just felt with 17k the bank approved me for, I could get a little more bang for my buck. The toyota was going for 14,500 and it didn’t have really a lot of features. It didn’t have keyless entry, didn’t have electric windows, it was basically a base model. I like my electric windows and yes I know when those things break they’re more expensive to fix but I have a kid and I found that with kids, electric windows with a lockout function on them are a godsend lol.
With a shop and a lot?
I tend to use a formula to determine if the car is worth keeping.
If the cost of unexpected repairs (not brakes, oil, hoses, etc.) over a 3-6 month period meet or exceed that of a car payment I could afford on an upgraded model of car, it’s time to dump it.
Ive had trouble with private owners and dealerships. The private owners were funny because they let the bullcrap slip thru but I wasted my time with them. The big car dealers make me nervous and make me angry. I feel their out to get me for as much as they can. They have too much overhead. Thats why Id sort of rather deal with an independent dealer. Hopefully one with a good reputation in the community.
Oh God Ive never had a car that met or exceeded a car payment! Except for two mistakes I made.
But if I have time to kill I would go the private owner or at least check into that. but that can take time and money to go out to check these cars out and Ive been just ok at that and thats a problem. One needs to be good at evaluating a car. I did best with the independent dealer I got a good referral for. I have never been able to beat his deals though I have not been thrilled with him either but Ive done very well with him on cost of ownership and at least somewhat interesting cars. And I dont even take his cars to a mechanic first. I just ceck them over myself. Its very fast time wise and hes brought cars right to my door and made the process effortless! I have never done better! I dont see how I could. But Im not totally satisfied with him because his cars seem rough to me but the cost of owner ship has been dirt cheap.
Those two mistakes were when I tried to do better on my own without the above mention independent dealer.
Myby this guy deserves deserves the golden wrench award. I know a very well respected owner of a auto shop who said he bought a car from him and it was good. Mayby I exspected too much for 1k.
I believe this man has saved me thousands and sold me interesting cars and cars that were great on gas that I could actually afford to enjoy. Not to leave out what I mentioned above.
God I feel so bad for that woman in the post time to go with the ciera 85. And so bad I was afraid to post what I thought for fear of being to emotional for the sit but you guys on here handled that very well. I thouight I had problems.
I gues Ive had it good in comparison.
BTW that 90 colt GT HB I test drove years ago that Ill never forget. That was a local independent dealer and the car needed something brakes or something. But I’d love to find something like that. And they had a repair shop in the building. I just thought I’d go see what they had one day and there in was in all its glory. And glory it was indeedy. Except consumer reports didnt have such a good rating for that year. I wouldve had to prob do a head gasket on that and it prob wouldve been wiser to find a 91 which consumer reports rated very well. If I couldve found one.
Any colt fanatics on here?
