$20.00 would be a pretty quick look over. Certainly no compression test which is important if you want to get a good idea of the internal condition of the valves and cylinders. I’d do it if you weren’t at all car savey, but I’d still get a more detailed inspection before a final purchase.

With the cars at this price range usually you are better off doing a look over and test drive yourself first and IF it checks out fine then have the mechanic look it over. The mechanic would usually charge one hour labor to give it a good run down. Depending on the area you are in the going rate for one hour might vary. If possible try to take a friend to the test drive.
