Shifting gears preferentially

I am finally having to think about buying a new-to-me/used car. After some searching, I realized that one of the few characteristics I really car about is the placement of the gear shift. Is there a way of finding out which models have the shifter on the “floor” of the car (next to the right knee) as opposed to it being placed on the steering column? I just don’t have time to research the interior of every car out there. I am not one of those cool people who drives a manual (too uncoordinated), so I am referring to automatic transmission cars. Thank you incredibly much to anyone who can offer some help.

Maybe you have time to search the forums. Here is the last time this question was asked: http://community.cartalk.com/posts/list/965012.page

The Edmunds web site has pictures for used cars under Research and Specs.
