Saturn intermittent high idle speed

My 2000 ls saturn will sometimes rev up to 2500-3000 rpm and stay there while driving with my foot off the gas.I never know when it will happen or when it will stop.

I’ve had to several shops and they change some parts, but they don’t fix the problem.

I have recently got a code of PO442, but I’m not sure it’s connected with the problem.



I would greatly apreciate some help.

If this is an SL, SL1 or SC1, it has an issue with the intake manifold gasket. Check by spraying wd40 or carb cleaner around the intake manifold around the #1 cylinder, particularly the lower front part. If the idle changes, then you need a new gasket. This usually gives a code of P0507 though.
