Saab 9-5 Transmission issue

I have a 2001 Saab 9-5 SE Wagon (6 cylinder turbo). Recently my transmission has been slipping or going into “limp mode” whenever the car is driven and gets hot. The automatic trans. performs normally when the car is cold-warm, however begins to have difficulty when it has been driven and gets hot. At a stop light, when I need to move forward it seems like the car has trouble going into the lower gears and I have to shift manually. Once the car gets beyond 2nd gear it works fine until I slow down, then lower gears don’t respond (slipping).

I did find that the trans fluid was very low at one point, then added to it (did not resolve the issue). A speed sensor code came up - part was replaced, however did not resolve the issue. Can this be a cooling/overheating issue w/the Trans? I don’t want to replace a transmission if it can be something less drastic! Thanks.

p.s. I almost called in on Sunday - have been listening to you guys for over 20 years!!
