Rover and Stellantis

It appears that Jaguar-Land Rover is going to move production of their Defender model from Slovakia to The US, and because it would be built here by Stellantis, it would be based on existing Jeep architecture–most likely the Wrangler.

Jaguar-Land Rover built by Stellantis with Jeep parts. Somehow that just does not sound encouraging.

What could possibly go wrong?

And one point in Land Rovers life they were owned by Ford.

They still going to sell it for 2x what other SUVs go for?

JLR might continue to build the original Defender in Slovakia and maybe export it to the US. The article says that Stellantis will build new models under the Defender badge, making the Defender more of a product line. If they want an increased US presence, having their designs built by a us company with existing, underused plants makes sense. Will it work? Who knows? We will just have to wait for the model line to be announced and see how unlike a Jeep or Land Rover they are.
