I have a 92 mercury cougar LE with a really rough low idle. The
rough idle disappears as the engine speed increases. Being a total dummy, I have no idea what is causing it. Being a total tightwad, I am looking for a cheap solution for the problem.
When was the last time you did a good, thorough tuneup with all new ignition components and filters?
How many miles does the vehicle have on it?
There’s a plethora of possibilities, from a worn out engine with uneven compression to a stuck EGR valve to a bad injector (1992 I think would have been throttle body injected). You can’t go wrong with a good tuneup, and many of the other possibilities would cost more to correct than the car is worth.
