Replacing starter

I’m looking at junkyards for a replacement starter for my 97 T-bird. I don’t want to get a new one since I’m selling/donating it soon, and with the other problems it has, I just need it for a few more weeks while I look for another car, and I don’t think I’ll be able to recover the $100 or so.

So when I look for a replacement, does it have to be the exact same year, model, and engine, or can I use starters of the same year, or can I use a starter off an engine the same size off any Ford?

Thanks

You just tell them what you need it for and they check their computer to see if they have it. The interchange is in the computer. Unless you are going to a U pull or something and they can tell you at the desk what fits.
