My son has a 98 Grand Marquis. We are replacing the rear axle. The rear axle did not have ABS brakes but the new one from the salvage yard is ABS. Is it okay to install the new axle or should I return it to the salvage yard?
This one should be fine. It could be more of a problem if it were the other way around (your car has ABS, new axle is non ABS) but added unnecessary components and sensors are not. I have a Ford Windstar van without ABS, but oddly enough it has the ABS controller, all ABS wiring, and at least one ABS sensor installed. I have no idea why it was built like this.
