Reliability of 10th Gen Honda Civic

Yes other than affordability.
I have bought cars as new as 5yrs. Looking for below $20k - would consider getting something in auction too - in CA, individuals can not buy from most auctions.

Small cars $15-20K in Consumer Reports’ Best Used Cars list are: Honda Fit, '17 to '19; Hyundai Elantra '19; Hyundai Ioniq '18; Kia Niro '17 and '18; Kia Soul '17; Mazda 3 '17 and '18; Nissan Leaf '18; Subaru Impreza '18; Toyota Corolla '17 thru '19; Toyota Prius '14 and '15; Toyota Prius C '18; and Toyota Prius V '14 thru '16.

CR’s criteria include above average reliability, and standard electronic stability control.

This info is in the April 2023 issue, their annual car issue.

May I ask what was the CR recommendation for mid size? I

Check your local public library. They might have a subscription to Consumer Reports. My county library has an electronic subscription. I log into my account and read any articles in CR.

What is the title of this CR publication?

Consumer Reports. I log in, search for Consumer Reoprts, then click on consumerreports.org. When I click on the web link I am sent to their website.

Included as articles in the monthly magazine, and summarized yearly in a book they publish titled something like “Consumer Reports New Car Guide”. They also publish a similar title for folks looking to buy used cars.

I will look for Consumer Reports Used Car Guide

It used to be possible to find it (in paperback) at my local bookstore magazine rack. Not sure now.

Still available most of the time at the grocery store magazine rack, in with the other car mags. Bookstore’s should have them as well.

Honda puts the turbo right up front extremely easy to access. If that wastegate fails, it’s going to be a lot easier to replace it on the Honda than other makes.

Here’s a very complementary review of the Honda Civic by a Toyota Service technician.

No dispute, but it comes w/a downside, b/c the turbo hardware is on top of other parts of the engine, and may need to be removed for access. adding to a repair labor fee. An example, may add a substatial labor fee to r&r a failed egr valve.

I might use that if it had wheels …

How’s this, George?

That turbo unbolts so easily you can take it off and get right under it if you need to but there’s plenty of room to reach under it I wouldn’t see the need to even do that?

I spoke with a 2017 Civic hatchback owner.
She says the car shows the need for oil change at 2yr interval - ie 20k miles between each oil change!

She takes it to a dealer! I asked since its turbo, does she needs to do frequently - she follows the car;s computer.

My worry is with with oil change every 2yr, what is going to happen to these cars when they get older! Even my Volt gets oil changed - does 5k/yr mostly on battery! Still get changed.

Hondas had a note in the owner’s manual that says to change the oil every year even if the computer hasn’t indicated it’s time for a service.
