I have a 1999 Toyota Sienna Van with a broken rear door latch. Is it possible to buy a replacement latch and install it myself? Does this repair have to be done by the dealer? Thanks.
You can replace the latch yourself. Aquire a replacement latch from a local auto recycler or a U-PULL-IT yard. Then it’s just a matter of removing the inner rear hatch panel to gain access to the latch so it can be replaced.

I just did this. I went to my local auto parts store and ordered the part. The process is relatively painless.
You could request from the dealer an “exploded view” drawing of the latch assembly installation. They’re usually happy to print one if you ask nicely.
