Rear Differential Noise

Hello Tom and Ray:

I have a 2005 Buick Rendezvous with just over 49,000 miles on it. I really love the car.

It is an all wheel drive and the rear diffential fluid had to be changed at about 24,000 miles when the car began whining turning corners.

Around 18,000 miles later the same scenario and the fluid had to be changed again costing me approximately $209.

Why is this happening? Could I possibly change the fluid myself? If so, what type of fluid would you recommend?

Sincerely,

Denver Brandt

If there was nothing bad about the old fluid, I really have nothing to say. That should limit me to only one novel. In the old days, some of them would just keep on whining and growling until the camshaft wore out. Then the old hulk went to the crusher or to a junior mechanic. I hope your situation is the same as theirs was.

Are you back two tires matched in size/brand/model/wear? If different it could have/be damaging your rear diff.
