I’m not really fond of watching cars drive around in a circle. I cannot recall the details of any particular race. What I can recall my dad and I going to thrill on wheels or some such name. A fleet of stock new 61 fords driven over ramps, on two wheels, etc. Good cars, good drivers, taking them to the limits. Fun to watch and fun to remember. They were all ford white.
Road racing, off road racing, or demolition derby might interest you. Demolition derby could involve your neighbors. They can afford to put a clapped out 60s sedan or station wagon in the ring. You can enjoy the spectacle and root your crazed friends to victory.
Yeah I do the demo derby once in a while at the county fair. They wet the track so much that it a lot of slow motion hits plus it’s in July and really hot usually. Sometimes I think it’s a shame to smash them up like a 59 Chevy wagon.
NASCAR road races: Sanoma CA, Watkins Glen, Charlette ROVAL, Circuit of the Americas. The first two tracks have been used by NASCAR for 25 years.
Is there a good supply of classic cars in your area?
Demo Derbys died off 20 years ago in my area, lack of low cost 1970’s and 80’s full size cars was the reason.
Seems like a lot of work to get a 60-year-old car operational for a derby, or were they fairly new the last time you attended a demo derby?
I think that Nascar has been racing at Watlins Glen for a lot longer than 25 years. As a teen, it was a real thrill for me to see Richard Petty competing there, circa 1964.
I probably have a skewed view. I see TV shows like Roadkill and Roadworthy Rescues and it seems like they have a big supply to choose from, and they usually are reviving large cars. We don’t even have drag racing near me. Land is too expensive to have tracks.
The Utah State Fair still has an annual demo derby, but there hasn’t been one in my area for many years. It takes too much effort to prep a car for such little prize money.
Comes in handy on a big hill though.
The good old days. They were terrible!
I just drove two cars side by side same suspension different tires.
One had Ironman touring tires.
Other had Pirelli high perf run flats.
Guess which one road much harder versus the other?
Yup!!
Doing my part to reach 500!
Replying to Chris the self appointed tire person is kind of a waste as he has been suspended .
He can still view all this, he just can’t log in and respond. Just like I can no longer log into ToyotaNation, but I can still see what stupidness goes on there.
How do you know this? Did I miss the announcement.
If you click on his name/icon you will see that he is suspended until July 1, 2025 for being “too combative”.
I’ll help get to 500 too!
I just bought 4 new tires for our Odyssey yesterday. We have the smaller tires, 235/60-18s. I bought Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires based on tests at Tire Rack and Consumer Reports. I guess they are busy because the earliest installation is 5/13 and they received the tires yesterday.
I even made a post about it after it happened with VDCdriver replying to it… lol
I had noticed some of his post missing…
Not sure why you would click on someone’s icon except for general interest. At any rate never noticed that feature before. Interesting though how you can threaten or swear at someone and not be considered combatant.
Here’s the deal though, I don’t flag unless really disruptive. Continuing to engage someone you have issues with seems like entrapment and sure to heighten the controversy. It’s best to just walk away.
How else would I have found out that his interests include “time travel”?
