Ranger4X4 transmission

I bought a used 2004 Ford Ranger4X4 with automatic trans. 28000 miles. I had all the fluids and filters changed. Now 1000 miles later the trans is shifting weird. Sometimes it bangs when it shifts and sometimes it seems to slip when shifting. Could the wrong transfluid cause this? My book says to use only MERCON V not to be mixed with regular MERCON.The convertor fluid was not changed. The shop says they used the right stuff. How can I tell? What should I do? Change the fluid a couple times to flush it. How many times? Thanks for any help

Where did you have the fluid changed at?? Was it at one of those fast lube places?? Did they flush it or did they drop the pan, change the filter and refill?? If they flushed it did they drop the pan first and change the filter??

Very good… I would take it back to them and let them check it out. You did right by staying away from those fast lube places…
