I think it was 60 minutes a couple of months ago about NYC and how trained they are in anti-terrorism. One of the cities concerns was what would happen if a terrorist shipped in a nuclear device in one of those shipping containers. NYC response is they have police with radiation detectors that are so accurate they detained one container because the detectors was picking up the radiation of the watches inside the container. If the detectors can detect that low-level radiation then I’m pretty sure they can detect any much higher levels from auto-parts. From what I understand all major ports are now using this technology.
