I am turning a 99 Grand Am into a dirt racer. In the process of gutting the interior, I have discovered something called Passlock that gives me a headache. Since security will be of little use at the racetrack, I want to replace the Key / BCM / PCM system with a Nascar-style 2 switch system (one to energize the system, the other to engage the starter.)
I can’t imagine this is not possible, but I also can’t figure out how to do it.
Any ideas?
The easy way is to put the key in the ignition, duct-tape it in there, and tuck it away somewhere, leaving the passlock wiring intact. Then you can run your ignition / fuel / cooling / starter wires to their own switches.
