I have a 2003 Chevy S10. The four wheel drive was working this spring, but when i got back from traveling for 4 months the push button 4wheel hi wouldn’t engage. The 4low will still engage. There is some weird electrical stuff going on with the dome light overdrive where it will shut off sometimes, and not others, same with the daylight runners, and the right blinker is high speed/rapid blinking. What are your thoughts on the 4hi? Switch panel? electrical? would love to hear your thoughts
I can just about guarantee that it is the shift solenoid on the transfer case. Constant source of failure.
I have a 2000 Blazer LT with Autotrac. For the last couple of years the push buttons for Auto 4wd and 4 Hi have been flakey especially if I haven’t engaged 4wd for any length of time. Here are a few things you can try.
- Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, especially if the 4wd Maintenance light is on.
- While moving slowing put the trans in neutral and press the 4wd button.
- Push the 4wd button with the vehicle stopped, then drive off slowly.
Once 4wd is working again, put in 4wd once a week for a few minutes while driving in a straight line (if on dry pavement). Since I’ve been doing this my 4wd has been working fine. Otherwise the transfer case motor has to be replaced (~$800 or more).
IIRC a fast blinking turn signal means that one of the filaments in the front or rear bulb has burned out. I haven’t had any problems with the DRLS, but make sure the sensor located at the right dash speaker is not being covered up. The only thing I can think off for the dome light is to check/clean the door switches in case one is sticking.
I couldn’t tell from your post if all these problems are related or not, so I treated them separately.
Good luck,
Ed B.
