I have a 92 VW Golf with 150,000 mi. Last fall, I had new shocks installed. Ever since then, when I have any weight over 50 lbs in the back seat or trunk, the rear of the car makes an awful grinding/ratting noise. My mechanic tells me it the heat shield, but I don’t think so. It is really loud. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
Are they OE shocks or after market?

It could be the heat shield. Have you checked it? Have you had anyone try to fix it?
That’s what my mechanic keeps telling me it is, but it doesn’t rattle; it’s making a grinding noise. Heat shields make that kind of noise? Thanks for your help by the way, I appreciate the input!
