Is it necessary to flush the power steering?
Not usually. I mean … I do it, but I keep my vehicles for as long as I can. Some Ford owners are on their 2nd or 3rd pump for some apps. It’s easier to change the fluid every so often and even put a filter in the return line, than it is to replace the pump or other component.
If you pay for this service, make sure they remove the fluid reservoir and clean the filter-screen that is hidden inside it… If that screen gets plugged up, it will starve the pump…
If you want to do it, just take a turkey baster or anything like it, and use it to pull all of the fluid out of the reservoir. Then just refill. Do it again the next week. Your fluid will be mostly new after that. 20 minutes & about $5
