Why do my dash lights fade in and out and how can I fix them. My instrument cluster looks like cheap Hollywood film effects of a 60’s horror films.
Probably a bad electrical connection. You don’t say how old the car is, but on cars from the 1980s and early 1990s, the dimmer control for the dashlights was typically a variable resistor that tended to get scratchy and unreliable after a decade or two … even if the setting was never changed. Sometimes those vehicles can be ‘fixed’ just by turning the dimmer control a tiny bit in either direction.
If the problem isn’t the dimmer control for the dash lights, it’s possible that one of the electrical connections needs to be reseated.
If the dash light intensity varies with engine speed, you likely have a problem with the battery or charging system.
It is a 2002 Siebring convertible. A lot of people I know have similar problems but when I take it to Chrysler they claim to have never heard of it and want a blank check to look into it.
