Not every lawsuit “requires” declaring bankruptcy
True, when I was rear ended in a drive through shoving me into the car in front of me, the car I hit sued me/my ins company and in turn my ins sued the car that hit me, I got a check to fix my truck, no more no less… Don’t know what came of the cars at either end of me, never asked didn’t care, still don’t, that was in the late 90’s…
The best auto insurance you can get these days is a dash cam that records both front and rear images.
A lot cheaper
And of course, you have to drive like a sane person.

Some people still feel personal responsibility for harm they have caused someone else. I was raised to pay my debts, not run and hide from them. If I needed short term relief, fine but eventually when I do have the funds for restitution, I fully expect to pay them. Debt caused by my own actions doesn’t just vaporize magically through bankruptcy. That loss is then spread across everyone else and I just don’t feel comfortable saddling everyone else with debt that belongs to me.
See above. Savvy? In your own words, if you were at fault in an accident and physically harmed someone else that suffered loss due to your “mistake”, you’d avoid taking responsibility, hide from your actions and preserve your finances but not feel any responsibility for their financial suffering at your hands?
