Oh, this beautiful noise... / outback clunking above 40mph

I’ve had this problem on and off for the last 30000 miles. The last 3000 have been the most intense and dramatic.

Here goes:

The noise starts above 35-40mph, it can be heard inside the car as clicking and metal tapping and if Im driving next to a concrete divider, like light rattling and clunking. It seems to be affected by headwind.

I checked underneath my car and under the hood for parts that might be loose and making this noise, but with no results. The one possible culprit I think could be the exhaust manifold cover, but I checked the cover and it seems intact and snug in place.

The sound comes from underneath the car on the driver’s side and can be easily drowned out by radio.

Any ideas?
