Occasional "pop" sound when starting up my Subaru Legacy Outback

I’ve heard a POP when turning on the ignition, maybe three or four times at most. There’s 7,000 miles on it and I live in Albuquerque.

I was wondering if it was because I’m not using 91 octane recommended by Subaru. I was told that it’s not necessary in Albuquerque’s altitude?5,000 feet.

7,000 miles? The solution is spelled w-a-r-r-a-n-t-y.

There is no need for you to either fix it or diagnose it yourself. Take it to the dealership for free evaluation and repair. You might also pose the octane question to the service manager. Be prepared to be told that you do need to use the octane specified in the Owner’s Manual.

Thanks for the feedback, that’s what I’ll do!
