No more chrome plated hardware

Not arguing the problems nor the reasons for eliminating hex chrome, just that those bans have not happpened throughout the US… yet.

Some shock and cylinder manufacturers have switched to Melonite… the black coating… to replace hard chroming. And it is getting difficult to find good quality show chrome platers. It will get worse.

There was an old chrome shop up in Norfolk VA. Royal Silver Plating Co. They had been in business since the late 1800’s.

In about 2010 I was restoring my 1975 Suzuki GT750. Brought all my parts up (about an hour North) and they did a good job. But it was expensive.

I just looked them up, they’re closed.

I did a search in DFW, a few plating shops still offer chrome, most don’t.
