Nissan Engine knock

Nissan Altima 2005, 200k+ miles on vehicle. Car worked when driving to a store, then wouldn’t start after trying to leave. Had to be jumped and then seemed fine. Next day transmission wouldn’t turn when starting and I can distinctly hear knocking coming from under the hood.

Check all the fluid levels that are involved w/the engine running. engine oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, radiator coolant. That’s the first step.

So how often if ever do you check the engine oil level and how much oil is in it at this moment?

+1 to ok4450’s question about the oil.

Also…

Your transmission shouldn’t be “turning” when you are starting your engine, so I am somewhat mystified by that comment.

That’s non car talk lingo for I started car and put in gear and car would not move.

The battery is dead, when the battery voltage is very low you may hear relays clicking (knocking).
