Hello Everyone,
I have a 2020 Kia Rio with 33K miles. I recently plugged in one of the Progressive Snapshot devices. 2 weeks later, I went to my car, power locks worked, dash lights came on, then the car wouldn’t turn over. It wasn’t responding at all, and suddenly power locks didn’t work. After about 5 minutes, it started up fine.
After it happened a few more times in the next few days, suspecting the Snapshot, I unplugged it, and it didn’t happen for a few days. But the last few days, it keeps happening. Today, the lights on the dash flickered a bit.
I had the battery checked, and it’s got plenty of power. I’m taking it to a Kia service center on Wednesday, but would love to know what you think. Knowledge is power.
Thanks Folks, This Site Rocks!
Was that done by an experienced, professional mechanic?
It could be as simple as loose or corroded contacts where the cables attach to the posts on the battery. Simply tightening the two clamps may do the trick. Before unhooking the cables, to look for and clean out any corrosion, make sure you know any codes that may need to be entered to get the infotainment or other systems up and running. Owners manual will likely tell you more about this, if it applies to your car.
It’s maybe little early, but batteries can develop internal problems that can show up intermittently.
Good luck and please let us know what is found out.

Battery test was done at a Jiffy Lube, they did check tightness of terminal clamps and for any corrosion.
The battery is actually not even as old as the car. Had a family member leave the door open and kill the original battery, so this one is from Kia, less than 20K old.
Big [[[ MISTAKE ]]] using a [[[ IFFY LUBE ]]].

Jiffy lube “techs” are maybe, just maybe a step up from a parts store “tech”… They might not even know what a loose battery cable end is (terminal)… lol
Grab the cable end (battery terminal) and make sure that you can NOT move the terminal at all under force… If it moves any, it is loose…
Also make sure it is all the way in park or the floor matt has not gotten under the clutch pedal depending on your transmission, you didn’t tell us what it was…

Sorry, meant to give an update but was out of town and super busy last weekend. I’m now nearly certain it was just a loose battery cable on the negative terminal. Turning over fine for the last 10 days. Not going to trust Jiffy Lube again on anything related to batteries. Thanks Guys.

I also wouldn’t trust the typical quick lube place to change my oil without screwing-up, or to do virtually anything else with my car.
To quote one of our now-departed forum members…
Never go to a quick lube place… not even for directions.

You might find that oil changes are more expensive at JL if you use synthetic oil. The repair shop I use for oil changes is about $20 less than the JL synthetic oil change and my shop has high labor rates.

Who tightened the battery terminals?
