When I was a kid, the local (non-automated) car wash had a large sign on the wall:
A clean car runs better
Mike, Iām not the ONLY person who reports that, please re-read @oilman messages above.
Iām not getting paid for the scientific research to prove or disprove my personal opinion, and Iām not sure if I need to ask for somebody permission to voice that opinion on a public forum
also, Iām not sure why Iām getting lectures about āproper maintenanceā when I clearly stated Iām well exceeding the requirements for the proper maintenance.
thatās my impression as well that oil gets diluted, as my trips are mostly around town, mostly falling into 10-40 miles range, so itās enough to get car warmed up, but not enough to boil it out probably
so, it kinda of nice to see that āoilā stays on the āfullā mark, but I do understand that by the time I change it, some of oil is replaced by the blow-by fuel, so I referred to it as a ādark matterā
No one ever said you couldnāt post your opinion. I donāt need to ask permission to dispute what youāre saying.
I remember seeing advertisements by Texaco for its āMarfaxā chassis lubrication when you could āTrust your car to the man who wears the starā. It could be that the chassis lubrication did make a car ride more smoothly if it hadnāt had a grease job for a while. This is different than a fresh oil change. However, a car got a chassis lubrication with an oil change.
just saw this. sure I can. itās a little more smooth and quieter for a few hundred miles. I have very good ears.
yes, I am beyond OCD. I also know my fluids are fresh and doing their job. I also get outside and do something. I also get away from the wife for a while. My dad lived through the great depression and taught me to take care of my stuff vs. buying a new one every other year from neglect. I used to spend 2 to 3K a year on lottery tickets (and never won) so spending on car fluids is fine with me.
when I put royal purple in, man that was a lot smoother and more quiet than castrol or ST from the last change.
Iāve used Royal Purple a couple times because it was on sale. I saw/heard ZERO difference in how well my engine ran. It may be a good oil (probably is)ā¦but itās not worth the extra expense (unless itās on sale). Most of the time itās over a dollar/qrt more then any other synthetic oil.
If itās anything like Royal Triton motor oil, it has to be the best, simply because Marilyn Monroe said so!
I donāt feel any difference after an oil change on my Silverado, but the oil pressure is higher. I suspect that the OPV might be stuck closed and as the filter gunks up, the pressure drops. After an oil change, the warm idle pressure is around 50. After 5k miles, it is around 30. If I wait till 7500, it will drop to 15 at idle which turns on a warning.
This is new to the vehicle, it used to hold 50 all the way to 7500 miles, but in the last year it changed. 2007 Classic, 5.3, 260k miles.
Sorry, no way there will be a discernible difference when changing oil that has only been in the engine for 2 or 3 thousand miles.
When oil becomes black and accumulates a residue that settles out in the bottom of the pan within the first hew hundred miles after service it would be likely that there is a serious problem with the crankcase ventilation system or a seeping leak into the block from the cooling system.
Heh heh. That has to be from around 1955 or earlier. Bet you knew right where to look. Still liked her and think someone killed her but Iām just not a fan of testimonials to get me to buy something. I think someone killed Natalie Wood too. I really liked her. Donāt know if she sold motor oil though.
Bearing wear.
Watch the movie āOnce Upon a Time in Hollywoodā and youāll know why Natalie Wood died.
Dandruff, her head and shoulders was washed up on the beach
I know who, just not sure why.
Back to oil though. I had complained about not seeing any Mobil Super dino on the shelves at the farm store. Then checked three other parts stores and nobody had it. So I just ordered some from Rock. Well then last week I was at the farm store and thought I would check and now all of their Mobil 1 was gone. Not a quart and the entire shelf was empty. Iāve got enough for a couple oil changes but I usually like to have a little on hand and now Iām a little concerned. Stock outs are something to be avoided since people over-react to them but still wonder what is going on.
