These cameras are going up in many states.
Remarkable 2,500 in just 4 months.
At 11 mph over I was photoed but it was legal.

Big surprise-

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Colo. — The tiny municipality of Mountain View has installed a new speed enforcement camera along a stretch of Sheridan Boulevard that has long been known to be a speed trap.

$100k issued. $20k collected. Camera co gets 20% or $4k. Woohoo.

$16k means a lot to Mountain View.
Sadly, many who live and travel through there are low income.

Thanks for warning all of the viewers from Mountain View who frequent here.

NH State Supreme Court has determined that speed cameras are UNCONSTITUTIONAL…so we won’t be getting them anytime soon.

So it’s constitutional to speed?

Constitution says nothing about speeding specifically.
Lots of people make assumptions.

Mike was quite explicit in how he worded it. Hard to misinterpret 4 words:

How does that imply anything about the act of speeding?

BTW- Mike there is another attempt to get that changed. I certainly hope we do not go down that path. I am also in favor of ditching the safety/emissions inspections. Passed the house but Senate looks to be same old same-o. If you miss the revenue, just increase the registration fee and omit the testing…

Mpls got rid of red light cameras. Cuz pic didn’t prove owner was driving. So, ā€œcarā€ went thru red light. But ā€œnotā€ owner?
Round 2. Camera takes pic of rear license. So, ā€œcarā€ is issued tix.
How is this different?

When I was working as a mechanic to help put myself through college, I failed many cars that should have been taken off the road years ago. I don’t see too many cars like that these days, and the stats say there really isn’t a significant increase in accidents due to no safety inspection.

I didn’t misinterpret it at all. Speeders don’t like speed cameras because they get caught. No speed cameras around they speed. I like speed cameras. You apparently don’t. Why if you don’t speed? Answer that and I’ll entertain further discussion with you. People drag up and down my street. I wish there was a speed camera. These speeders are spoiled brats.

I once saw a speeder get in a wreck outside my door. They pulled out several bodies. This in a 30 zone. With a school and a church. Took ALL NIGHT to clean up the wreckage as they also wiped out several parked cars.

Good point!
The photo must reveal the driver’s face clearly enough thathe driver can be recognized.
When myvife was along, her image was always blocked out.

Supposedly:
In California, the driver and passenger appeared in the photo mailed to the registered owner’s house.
Wife opened the ticket and saw the woman with whom her husband was cheating.
She filed for divirce and he sued the Photo Red Light company.

There’s a guy in Connecticut(?) who wears a gorilla mask when he’s on camera, beats the ticket because they can’t prove it’s him. I’m against speeding, don’t see why cops can’t ticket the car. The owner can sort out liability. The cops punish money and all sorts of things through ā€˜civil forfeiture’.

I’m not a fan of speed cameras, too easy to install lots of them for repeat tickets. I’m changing my mind about red light cameras, though, seems like a big surge in folks running red lights near me.

And yet NH issues TENS OF THOUSANDS of speeding tickets a year. And states that do have cameras - they only account for a small percentage of total number of tickets issued each year.

Oh yes you did. I am quite familiar with the tactic of stretching the narrative to fit someone’s argument. NO ONE said anything about speeding being OK, that was in your head. I’m not about to go back and forth on it, I think it’s plain to see.

See, this is you trying to stretch the narrative to fit your distorted perception of what is being said and just to foment an argument.

No thanks. I’ve been down this road before with people who do this kind of thing and I know how it progresses. I’m not really interested in whether or not you want further ā€œdiscussionā€.
