My wife owns a 98 ford escort ZX2 and her current issue is the car stops running at idle and it cuts off when she’s driving it. Could this be a clogged fuel filter issue?
That’s one possibility, yes.
Does it shut down like you turned the key ‘off’? Does it start right back up? A clogged fuel filter would show up as loss of power at high throttle settings, i.e. climbing a hill or accelerating up to freeway speed. Most likely you have a problem with the fuel pump itself, the ignition module, the crank position sensor, or cam position sensor (if it has one).
Post back your answers.
There are lots of ignition or throttle position type of isues that can cause it. Clogged filter is usually not the main one.
