Man, my grandkids be rolling in style to school now a days..
Nothing would surprise me in this time period.
Reverence and common sense are dead.
I really like the mercury switch under hood lamps, we ised to buy them up at the junkyard for .75 cents each. I have at least 10 of them in storage. I added 3 under the hood of the silverado and 2 under the hood of the Caprice.
Underhood lights are a luxury in a semse but nice for checking fluid levels at night.
Have you ever driven, say, a Civic with stock 205/55R16 tires?
What about a Highlander with stock 245/55R19?
I have, and the cars ride just fine
Not a stiff ride at all
And you’re not constantly destroying rims going over potholes
I have a feeling you’re complaining, but can’t actually back it up with any hard proof
db:
I just don’t see the justification for them on non-competition daily drivers.
There is no smoking in any of our vehicles, period. If you’re a smoker and cannot wait, we will pull over and you can smoke outside the car. Nasty habit and almost impossible to get that smell out once it’s in there.

While I did have an occasional smoker-passenger 30 years ago, there hasn’t been anyone in my life for at least 25 years who is a smoker.
That explains a lot. I only rent smoke free cars and only stay in smoke free hotel rooms.
CVT tranny is right for you since they don’t have gears.
Have on my 2017 Corvette. Very convenient. Not an issue.
There are many vehicles that don’t have this feature. Have you looked at a Hybrid?
You are so adverse to technology and science I’m amazed you don’t just tool around on a horse drawn buggy.

Nashville has a lot of potholes that can damage and or blow out tires, they bent steel none low pro wheels like nothing, but on the BMW and MB vehicles about only the 35 ratio and lower tires are the ones cracking wheels, and I saw thousands of damaged wheels and or tires when I worked downtown Nashville with 2 interstates right next to me and one more a 1/2ish mile away…
Now guess what, I drove a vehicle with 205/55R16’s for years and never damaged a wheel or tire, actually I have 3 vehicles in my fleet with those size tires…One is a Cobalt, one a Corolla and one is a Matrix/Vibe and they all ride normal…

My 2011 Outback had an electronic e-brake, and I never had any issues with it in the 11 years/140k miles that I owned it.
Both of these guys are bitterly complaining about things that have been long established to be just fine and unproblematic
I’m sure that we have had people who were afraid of change in every era, and that makes me wonder if some people in the early '50s were upset when power windows transitioned from hydraulic power to electric power.
For those who are too young to remember hydraulically-powered windows, after a few years, one could expect big oily stains on the cloth-covered door panels when the hydraulic system began to leak.
And, of course, repairing those hydraulic systems was much more expensive than repairing electric power windows.
I cannot stand smoking and no one smokes in my vehicles.
The point of the top tik tok mechanic is around the time they stop putting ashtrays in vehicles is around the time we started getting things like direct injection, all these whiz bang gadgets and screens in them and more gears in the transmission than wheels on the vehicle.
I believe alot are missing the point.

Ashtrays being removed and direct injection in gas cars are decades apart.
The point is - you don’t trust technology - even when it’s PROVEN to be far superior.
Hey, Rick
I figure your blood pressure would go down drastically, and your level of happiness would also go up . . . if you stopped ranting about technology
I hope you’re not also griping at work, to your colleagues and supervisors
That’ll probably cost you dearly
The automotive industry is not going back to points, drums, throttle cables, 3-speed automatic transmissions and carburetors

A 2013 Silverado has port fuel injection and an ashtray. 2014 silverado has no ashtray and switched to problematic direct injection.
To be fair the 2013 had more gears than wheels so the downfall already had begun around 2008 or so.
I like technology. I dislike finicky, unreliable, problematic technology.

My 2000 Silverado has all of those beat. With a reliable non-VVT engine, and 4-speed automatic transmission, even today at 214,000 miles, it still runs like new. How many of these direct-injection engines will make it to 150,000 miles, let alone 200,000 or more?

I do appreciate your statement and you are probably correct. However it is not in my nature to remain silent about such things. If i truly believe something is correct I will argue it to the fifth degree. If its a known matter of fact then I will stand by it.
I do carry on at work about such things. I also carry on about politics and that has caused me some issues at work. I even had one enraged gentleman threaten to physically harm me because I simply stated a matter of fact about the President Elect after the election last November.
Facts really bother people, especially when stated in a calm and thoughtful tone.
I ran into that here when I stated that pound for pound, drum brakes are more efficient than disc brakes. It is an indisputable fact, yet it doesn’t fit some people’s narrative so then they discount that fact.
