Well, and though its far from a “muscle car”, my 1964 LeSabre with the small 300ci V8 gets into the mid-20’s on the highway-- and seats 8! Way better Miles per Gallon per person than most cars these days! Only 2 seatbelts, though…
An economy car that gets “almost 30 MPG”. Surely you could do better than that.
My Lincoln Mark VIII (some consider a modern muscle car) has an almost 300 HP V-8 engine, rear drive, runs a shade over 14 seconds in the 1/4 mile while weighing over 4000 pounds, and also gets “almost 30 MPG”.
Since I’ve asked several times, and here’s three, are you in favor of also scrapping RVs and boats; both of which are much more numerous and get far worse mileage than muscle cars?
Since you’re advising someone to go confront their neighbors about their choice of transportation, have you gone door to door in your own neighborhood and confronted your neighbors? I thought not.
It was nice of the OP to start this thread so we could talk about our sweet old cars.
Ouch, that does kinda damper the driving process a bit.
Have you thought about the color you’re gonna paint it?
I found the original paint code for the Chevelle and found out it was originally E-E, Danube Blue
The car is supposed to be copper with the white stipe across the trunk and down the quarter pannels? I will most likely repaint it that color. My 6 cyl Dart is avocado green but I am thinking of repainting it a dark green.
The rain makes it difficult but on a day like today when the temp is 85 and the sky is blue it makes it all worth while.

Hard to get good pictures buried in the shop but here it is. You can see the correct color in the engine bay.

I bet if you painted the engine bay black, like mine, that would probably set off the color better than the copper would.
Not telling you how to do your car up, but just suggesting it.
It is a great suggestion but I haven’t decided yet. My plan at this point it to enjoy it for the rest of the summer. Come fall I will be pulling the engine, trans, trim, hood, fenders, doors, etc… At that point I will have to decide on a color. Thank you for the suggestion and I welcome any and all opinions.

Also, it’s weird that if you added 2 extra headlights, it’d look eerily like my chevelle.
Funny you should mention that. The first time my wife saw it I drove to her house to pick her up for a date. Her and her dad both thought that it was a Chevelle.

Here is a picture of the 6 cylinder car. Looks pretty sad but it is solid.Original California car with no rust.
