Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross opinions?

I am considering a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Any opinions about this model? I have no experience with any Mitsubishis.

The April Consumer Reports on page 73 gives it a negative review.

I ainā€™t buying anything with a CVT. Especially since Mitsubishi is in an alliance with Nissan and Renault and the CVT is likely to be sourced by JATCO

I will excerpt the review by Consumer Reports, in its April, 2019 issue:

ā€œUnderwhelmingā€¦ mundane handlingā€¦unsettled rideā€¦ extremely frustrating controlsā€
ā€œlackluster engineā€¦ runs out of steam when climbing hills or merging onto highwaysā€¦ fuel economy isnā€™t impressive for its classā€
ā€œCenter console touchpad is cumbersome and distracting to useā€¦ driverā€™s seat is short on supportā€¦ curvy styling hurts the driverā€™s view outā€

When comparing this model to the other 15 vehicles in its class, the Eclipse Cross rates as next to last, with only the Jeep Compass rating lower than this Mitsubishi.

Whatā€™s not to like?

Yeah but you get a 100000 mile power train warranty .

ā€¦ assuming that a company whose US unit currently has one foot in the grave and the other one on a banana peel is around long enough for the OP to rack-up 100k milesā€¦

I agree with VDCdriver. There was a story about 2 years ago which stated that market share for Mitsubishi was something like .03%. Probably wonā€™t be long before they go the way of Suzuki.

That being said, about 2 months ago my brother in law bought a new Mitsubishi. Gets great gas mileage BUTā€¦

A dealer demo Mirage at 11K tells me theyā€™re wanting to unload them pretty badly.

around here they have added another dealer and now there is like three or four .Actually seeing a fair amount of their smaller CUVā€™s driving around and they really arenā€™t bad looking but I havenā€™t seen how the reliability is. myself will never drive anything with a CVT driving it .

We no longer have a local Mitsubishi dealer and the ones that I thought were still dealers further north no longer are, The closest oneā€™s an hour away on a good day. The one an hour away offers some sort of lifetime powertrain warranty, if itā€™s worth anything at all.

The rest of the vehicule wont make it to 100k miles:smiley::smiley:

I happened to get one when I rented a car for 8 days. I did only drive it a few miles most days, but it was fine on the ā€œSurekillā€ Expressway on a Saturday afternoon during Memorial Day weekend. (Schuylkill Expressway from City Avenue back to the train station to return the car.) I found nothing to complain aboutā€¦ I used to have a 2001 Pontiac Aztekā€“my favorite car, ever!ā€“so was already used to a horizontal ā€œbarā€ across my rear view mirror sight.
