I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT with a standard transmission and about 155k miles on it. For the past couple months the car has been to a mechanic once every two weeks. Recent work that’s been done includes the O2 sensors, spark plugs and catalytic converter. Today I noticed that the car has started making a squeaky rattling noise coming from the right side of the engine. It only happens when I accelerate and it does not happen in reverse or if I rev the engine while the car is parked. I also noticed that the car drastically loses power at about 2,500 rpms. I would love to buy a new car, but I’m a college graduate that can’t find a job and I simply can’t afford it at this point. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I’m not sure what your asking. This car is about 9 years old. Reliability tends to drop off about now. That’s why it is hard to find honest financing for cars this old. The only cure is to keep paying mechanics when things break, or buy something newer. Third option is park it, and ride the bus or walk.
With the record you’ve mentioned, reliability has really become an issue. And, KBB.com mentions this car is at most worth $4,000. Just me, but this car may have just become a money pit.
I apologize, I probably should have been more specific. I’m looking for any insight as to what could be causing the current problem with the car. A new car is totally out of the picture for me right now, and I live in a sprawling metroplex where public transit is not practical.
