Mechanical brakes!

In 1951 my stepfather as commuting back and forth to work in a Mode A , don’t remember what year. The only thing I remember about the brakes was that the frequent adjustments required cursing and penetrating fluid.

I truly hated that car. After the electric starter went , his plan was for me to get up early enough to hand crank it. After getting whacked in the forearm with the crank, I refused yo hand crank it and instead pusher him down the driveway to bump start it. At least the driveway was level.

The model A was not much fun to drive either, I much preferred the 1940 Buick Century that preceded it. A car that was faster that the 49 Olds 88.

And so did just about every other motorcycle made in that era, except for a few models with front disk brakes, and even those had mechanical drum brakes on the rear wheel. There were even some small displacement motorcycles with mechanical disk brakes.
