Mazda Transmission Question

I have a 2002 Mazda 626 with A/T. It has not been slipping and has 134,000 miles on it. Last week when I started it, the transmission lever only slid back and forth without locking into any gear. Today when I started it, the lever locked into a gear but the car doesn’t move. Is the tranny shot or might it be another issue? There is fluid in the transmission and it is only very slightly brownish. Thanks

Sounds like you have a simple transmission linkage problem. Someone needs to take a look at it to see if it’s a broken part or has simply come loose. It happens.

Definitely check the linkages, when thats cured, do a service and get that bad fluid out of there.

@transman618 : I agree fully; transmission fluid should be clear and pink. Change it and the filter right away and adjust the linkages. Don’t flush under any circumstances.
