Mazda 3 2006 crank but no start after cleaning intake manifold and port 🤦

Owner of a Mazda 3 2006 1.6 diesel(HDI engine)

First time doing this, decided recently to take off intake manifold because ive heard those get clogged easily, noticed the car was losing power

Took it off, saw a severely clogged intake and cleaned in to the best of my ability
The intake ports were also clogged, however i rushed and impulsevely took a screwdriver and cleaned it spotless… thats when i realised that it may have clogged the port… tried to get as much of it out and prayed to jesus it would start after assembly but nothing, tried giving it gas nothing, floored it nothing, it just cranks but no start…

I checked multiple times if i may have forgotten to plug something in, everything is in place as it was
Is there a way to get the gunk out of the intake port? I am positive it is because the ports are clogged or the worst is yet to come?

Probably going to have to put it in a dip tank with solvent.

I am sorry, put what in the solvent?
The intake manifold is clean…
It is the holes below it that i believe may be clogged
Is there a way to get it out without removing the head?

Post some photos.

Appears more cleaning is required. But since the engine started and ran before the intake manifold work (albeit w/reduced power) , for cranks, no start in a diesel, common reasons:

  • no fuel
  • no compression
  • glow plug fault

Are there any obd II codes?

That is what i tried to do, I have a cheap diagnostic that used to work before, now when i try to hook it up the elm connection is through but ecu wont connect after waiting 5 minutes

Number 1 priority.

I will try again tomorrow, i checked the battery there is a green circle through the little glass so i think its okay

Its no use, my obd2 scanner is not working, checked again if i missed a wire and everything is in place , probably going to the mechanic to take off the head as i have no experience

Have you verified this conclusively by attempting to hook up your scanner on someone else’s car?

Ill try later but ive had no issues past week where ive been diagnosing a turbo low boost code

Oh no! All of that carbon that fell into the ports got sucked into the cylinders when you tried to start it so there’s nothing left to remove in the ports. The cylinder head is going to need to come off I’m afraid.

Thats what i figured, already booked the mechanic to clean it…wont be making the mistake again

I wonder if removing the spark plugs and cranking the engine a few times might help expel anything that fell into the cylinders during the cleaning process? Years ago I had a VW Rabbit that cranked ok but wouldn’t start after doing a fuel system pressure test. Turned out the test had put too much fuel in the cylinders. Plug tips were wet w/fuel.

It’s a diesel engine, George.

Oh, forgot about that. Good point.

hmmm … Wondering … How did the Corolla problem get mixed up with the Mazda problem? Computer/website difficulties today?

Ive already cranked it a couple of times, the rpm stays at 0

The issue is fixed, cleaned the engine head at the mechanic and the car now runs fine, however the turbo issue is getting worse it seems, used to be p0299 low boost now im getting p0045 and p0238 codes, could it be the boost pressure sensor?
