Lots of white smoke semi constant but coolant doesn’t seem to be dropping

Hello I’ve got a skoda rapid 2014 and I noticed on the drive home for most of the journey there was loads of thick white smoke coming out the exhaust smelt chemically but wasn’t constant and sometimes would only be small clouds of white smoke the coolant doesn’t seem to have dropped at all and can’t see any obvious leaks everything I’ve read said about the head gasket and coolant leaking but could it be anything else if the coolant hasn’t dropped? And what’s the best way to check the different options it could be without taking it to a mechanic I’m disabled and unable to work and everything says it’s going to be very expensive fix

Thanks for your help

(Edit just checked coolant still not dropped but oil has so it seems to be the oil but there’s no engine light and no visible signs of a leak so what should I do?)

If the oil dropped but the cooland didn’t, you may have a cracked piston, damaged rings or worse. If this is the case, you need a new engine. A compression test will confirm this.

It is also possible the crankcase vent system is clogged. That repair is less painful. I can’t direct you to a home repair since this is mostly a US site and we don’t get Skodas.

Skodas are essentially cheaper Volkswagens. If there is a pcv valve, that would be worth checking or replacing. Otherwise bad deal.

What was the appx ambient air temperature at the time you noticed the white exhaust smoke?

Does this car have a turbo?
