Lexus IS LED check engine light

Hello everyone!

I was ( and still is) ill for some time and left my car with my sister. The battery then started to fail within a month of my absence and my brother in law would jump start the car whenever necessary.

I contacted Lexus about jump starting the car and a service guy told me that it is not recommended to jump start Lexus vehicles and suggested I brought the car in for a new battery.

I delivered this message to both my sister and brother in law but it appears they didn’t think jump starting the car would cause any harm, so they continued to jump start it whenever necessary.

Today, I was informed by my sister that there is an orange check engine light on the dash stating “ LED failure or malfunction ).

I did some research on this issue and just like Lexus has told me, jump starting the vehicle potentially puts the car’s electrical system at risk.

Is this another high bill ?

These are Check engine lights.

What the light might mean is there’s an exterior light out.

Have them check if all the lights are working.

The battery needs to be recharged once a month. How often do you recharge the battery in your phone?

The check engine light is only a light, no message. What you see in the message center may be for a different system. Usually “PCS malfunction” is displayed with a dead battery. Post a picture of the warning lights and messages.

Damage will occur if the cables are reversed. The dealer jump starts 10 cars each day without problems.

How old is that battery?

If it’s 5 years old throw it out :wastebasket: and replace it

I think the auto club would send a guy over and sell and install a new battery if your sister is unwilling tp take the car to a shop

The battery is 3 years old and goes dead within 2 to 3 days of inactivity. The battery is also a Lexus brand battery.

Thanks Nevada. I’ll have her take a picture of it as I’m unable to do so as of now.

Lexus doesn’t manufacture batteries. It’s likely from GS Yuasa, Panasonic, or Exide. If you want an exact duplicate, you probably have to go to the Lexus dealer. A photo of the battery will tell you which one. If she can, get the manufacturing date in the picture too. A replacement battery could be on the shelf for a while.

The battery has Lexus signature on it.

The North American battery manufacture for Lexus is Johnson Controls.

I think the OP’s point was the retailer that will handle the battery warranty.

I replaced a Walmart battery in one year on an inactive car. Wouldn’t hold a charge and wouldn’t start the car after 24 hours charging. Buy new battery. Get your car back under your control. Put a battery saver on it and start it up once a month yourself if you want.

You’re really stressing your alternator by doing this. I suggest you replace the battery before you kill the alternator.

The car is at the dealership at the moment. $170 to diagnose the problem. And they’re having trouble locating the noise from the rear end, though they can hear it.

Will update this thread.

Update:

Toyota said all issues should be resolved and suggested that I replace the spark plugs, which was done last year at Lexus dealership, because the car’s voltage is low.

I’m not sure if this makes any sense. I only have 10,000 miles on the new spark plugs and it’s only been a year.

I told the rep no thanks.

The car’s voltage is low? Or the battery voltage is low?

A battery tender or a battery charger would resolve the low battery voltage situation.

Spark plug replacement was suggested based on vehicle miles. They expect the customer to keep track of the maintenance that was completed in the past and respond whether or not it has already been done.

Toyota said tech replaced battery and performed hard reset and the light on the dash went away.

After replacing the battery, steering angle sensor calibration is performed. This is often necessary when replacing the battery in a late model Lexus.

Correct. It’s just that they said my car’s voltage is low and I should change the spark plugs. When I asked if they inspected the plugs, they said no but based on mileage it needs to be done.

That’s when I told them I already replaced them last year at Lexus and I didn’t need this service any time soon. Then I asked what is causing the low voltage ? He said he doesn’t know for sure since the battery is new and suggested that I monitor the car’s performance.
