I’ve got a water leak on a 91 Gen 5 Toyota Celica GT,
(5sfe ( 5 S-FE ) Engine type, ST184 frame, 2.2L 4-cyl. 5-speed)
that’s 1 of the 2 lines going to the heater core,
inside the engine-side of the firewall.
I’m looking for someone’s “easy” experience/tips
to replace the hose:
But this hose appears to be w/ some sort of pressure fitting;
I don’t see a clamp, or removable assembly;
Any Toyota gear heads in here?
If they are special fitted hoses, get them. Otherwise, measure and buy enough. Consider getting new hose clamps - they may be easier to install, and more reliable than the OEMs. If it’s near or past time for new antifreeze, get some.
Drain the radiator. Save and cover the coolant so no animals can drink it.
If possible grasp and twist to loosen the hoses and pull them off. If you have to cut, be careful not to cur the metal they fit over.
You then just loosen the hose clamps at each end of the hose, slide the clamps down the hose, then with a tile knife split the hose at each end of the old hose, and then twist the hose to remove it.
Reinstall the new hose with new hose clamps.
Refill the cooling system with a 50/50 mixture of distilled water and antifreeze/coolant.
You may be able to replace the hose with standard heater hose from a local parts store instead of the molded hose. But you have to determine if the hose can make any turns without kinking. And you need to know the diameter of the hose.
And while you’re replacing that hose, might as well replace the other hose to the heater core. Because if that one gave up the ghost, the other one isn’t far behind.
