Lack of Power, 1989 Plymouth Voyager

Our 1989 Plymouth Voyager 2.5L non-turbo runs but has a lack of power. When you accelerate off the line, there is not as much power as there used to be. There is not much power to go up hills or to pass anyone.

We replaced air filter 2 weeks ago and nothing changed. Oxygen sensor and MAP sensor were replaced several years ago. Fuel filter was replaced around same time.

We’d like to know if anyone out there has any suggestions for what we should check to try to improve power for passing and going up inclines.

Thanks.

I recommend that you post your question at allpar.com on the EEK forum. There are many people there who can help.

Start with a compression check. The engine is old and head gasket failures are common. Also check the alignment of the timing belt. It may have jumped a tooth.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will do.
