In my opinion, the time delay due to requiring of moderator approval for posts will kill this site.
I am hoping this turns out to be a shorter term solution. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.
Thank you Carolyn. I hope the computer gurus can find a fix.
It will. I’ve seen it in other forums.
The REAL solution is to stop the attacks BEFORE they happen. Right now it looks like anyone or bot can just register as a user. Even something as simple as Captcha will stop this threat. Also each person should need moderator approval. The new user will need a VALID Email and there will be a human interaction between new user and moderator staff to approve all new users. Once approved they can post til there hearts content - UNLESS they abuse that privilege. It’ll be a lot easier to just approve each new user then approve every post or comment.
If all posts need Moderator approval that is unfair to Carolyn and John as both have full time jobs . I suspect this approval thing is a knee jerk reaction to the mass Spamming recently. Making things difficult for the long term members is not the answer.
I posted after the spam attack and it was on line in a few minutes
Thanks, Steve. We’re all on this now, and hope to keep the posts going up fast.
I’m a longtime forum member, and I’m very grateful for our support folks. Thank you for what you’re doing to keep CarTalk Community going. I don’t mind waiting for new posts.
Captcha will keep me out, I am terrible at them.
You only need it one time to create the account. And there are several types of Captcha being used. Some are easier than others.
The gridded photos are easy. The weird alphanumeric combinations are too difficult. I haven’t seen them in a while though.
