Jeep with mind of its own!

I have a 1989 Jeep Cherokee. It has started NOTstarting…no pun intended! I’ve check the battery, battery wires and that doesn’t seem to be the problem. The jeep will start in the morning, but if I stop and have to turn it off, ti won’t start back up. I’ll let it sit for several minutes to an hour and it will start. Sometimes it takes longer., but it starts eventually. Everything on the jeep has been checked out. Someone said it maybe a gas line issue. but the other day teh batery indicator was on red (has a new battery). I don’t know what the problem is other than I can seem to get where I’m going!

HELP!!!

You need to describe in more detail what no starting means.

Do you turn the ignition switch and nothing happens? Or you turn the ignition switch and the engine cranks over but doesn’t start?

Tester

+1 for @Tester. If you have an automatic transmission…just shift to neutral and see if it starts. If it does you have a bad neutral safety switch. As a former owner of several Jeep Cherokees…I can attest that they have flaky neutral safety switches.
