I am having a problem with my 1996 jeep grand cherokee. When I stop at a light and I am in drive, it wants to stall. If I am in park or neutral - no problem. Any ideas fellas?
If it has an Intake Air Control Valve (IACV) have it cleaned.
Some mechanics may want to just replace it, but look for one willing to make the extra effort.
Clean the throttle body too.
I’ve had better luck cleaning throttle bodies versus IAC valves
Cleaning throttle bodies often helped
Cleaning IAC valves rarely helped
That’s just my personal experience
But I agree that cleaning is the first step
What is the idle running at? If it has the right RPM but wants to stall you are looking at power problems, maybe timing or mixture. If the idle is low than check the IAC to make sure it is hooked up and working. Last but most expensive, If your torque convertor is acting up it could be bad
