1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport, in the past week I have hit a bump in the road that has caused the speedometer and RPM gage to drop to zero, and another incident that caused all gages to drop to zero. Both times the cages returned to normal within a few seconds. How do I correct the problem?
This is obviously a connection problem, most likely with the power to the gauges. You may be able to pin the trouble area down by tapping on suspected connections using a screwriver handle to tap with and watching the gauges for a failure. I suspect the trouble may be with the connector to the gauges in the dash but it may be somewhere else. Also by disconnecting and reconnecting connectors in the circuit path it may solve the trouble.
Could be a problem with the ground connection to both gauges.
