Isuzu Rodeo Rear Wiper Won't Work

My rear wiper on my 1998 Isuzu Rodeo does not work. I have taken the motor off and it ran some voltage to the motor and the motor worked. I pulled the switch out and I have no idea how to troubleshoot from here. Help!

If the Isuzu has a set up for the rear window wiper as does the Toyota 4Runner, the window in the tailgate must be all the way up or the rear wiper won’t operate. The wiper wouldn’t work on my 4Runner, but found the answer in the owner’s manual. If the Isuzu has the same system, there must be a switch that is only closed when the window is up. This may give you a place to look.

The 98 Isuzu does not have a rear window that goes down. The window simply lifts up and the tailgate can be opened.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry I couldn’t help. Since I am lazy, I look for the simple things to try first.

If the rear wiper motor is in the rear gate, check the wiring continuity from the switch to the motor. One way to check is to access the power wire to the motor; disconnect it; turn on the wipe switch; and measure the voltage at the connector. Carry your black lead from the voltmeter to a known good ground. If you see 12 volts, connect the wire back to the motor and check to see if there is 12 volts on the motor case – i.e. bad ground.

That should lead you further along in your troubleshooting.
