Can Hear Every Valve Rocker Or Lifter Every Time.

Yep!

So normal or not ?

It sounds like the valve lash needs adjusting.

The valve lash on this engine can’t be adjusted. The lifters need to be changed to the proper thickness.

How long has it been making this noise? A new noise is something to be checked out by another mechanic, if it always sounded like this then I’d go with your mechanic’s diagnosis.

edit - I’d get them checked.

That’s the valve lash adjustment for this engine.

That’s funny, y’all saying the same thing, just in separate ways… lol

Although the valve clearance is not adjustable in the conventional way, it can be adjusted by the different thickness lifters, no different then the valve lash adjusters/shims on top of the Toyota engines, just fancier…

Interesting… bucket tappet solid lifters.

GM had hydraulic bucket tappets they used in the first Saturn engines. I am surprised they did not use them in these engines.

I wonder if we’ll ever hear back from the OP. If it was mine I’d have the valves checked.

My GTI used shims, and the cam could stay in place with a special tool to free/install the shim. I bought the tool, a set of shims, but the darn thing stay in spec, never needed them.

My motorcycle was the same. Hardened steel shims sitting on top of the tappet. A tool pried on the cam to allow the shim to be switched.

I never had to adjust my Kawasaki 4 cylinder either.

I know that. My post said that the lifters need to be changed to the proper thickness and your attachment says the same. Not sure your point.

This is my point.

And I showed it can.

We’re arguing semantics. I understand your point but that is not a lash adjustment in the traditional sense. Bring that vehicle to almost any shop and ask them to adjust the lash, see what they say.

There are different methods on different engines to perform a valve lash adjustment. Be it with an adjustment screw, a shim, or replacing the lifters, it’s still a valve lash adjustment.

Any shop worth their salt knows this. And what engines a valve lash adjustment can be performed on.

Fair enough. I concede.

What a pain for that engine, removing cams and all. That’s got to triple the cost. Maybe worth a check just to make sure there aren’t any ‘tight’ valves that could end up burnt, or damaged cam lobes causing the noise.

Imagine what it would have cost to perform a valve adjustment on your Lexus ES300 with 4 camshafts.

Modern engines usually last for the life of the vehicle without needing a valve adjustment.

True, but that Cruze sure is making a racket. Checking it out wouldn’t cost a lot, right? Remove the valve cover and measure the clearance?
