I read this column in the Albuquerque Journal http://www.cartalk.com/blogs/dear-car-talk/case-bad-battery-or-evaporating-gas recently and realized this guy may have the same problem I did (he has an '86, I an '87), a leaky accelerator pump, which I fixed with a simple (but trepidatious) carburetor rebuild.
