Is it tranny rebuild or TCM module?

recent whinning noise in transmission - first mechanic thought it was loose belt, then shifting became difficult. Now, No reverse. Had Transmission filter & fluid changed @ 100K. Now @130K, fluid not low or dark or burned. Does it have to be a rebuild or can it be something else ?

Please share the make, model, year, engine size and configuration, transmission model, number of forward speeds, and mileage on this vehicle. It is always good to know what we are talking about. Are you in ‘limp home’ mode in the forward gears?

In the meantime, have a reputed transmission shop scan the computer and do a diagnostic on the transmission. The ‘No reverse’ is troubling as usually there is no interaction of the TCM with that gear.

If you have lost reverse, and the linkages are ok then the trans will need to come out. While reverse issues are rather easy to diagnose, rarely can they be repaired with the trans still in the vehicle. If you fill me in on the vehicles year make model and engine size, I could probably give you more info on your transmission.
