Is Citgo the ugliest name for an oil company?

I happened upon this long-out-of-business early 1900’s era Sinclair station one time, driving the backroads from San Jose to Colorado.

There is no doubt that the worst name for a gas station chain is Kum & Go. And they are now all over the mid west.

They seem to be a big hit in small towns.

Because it is the only gas station in the small town?

There’s a Dr. Leak, who is a urology specialist not too far away!

We used to stop at one that had maybe a 6 foot dinasaur, metal I think. They helped us out for a saturday night breakdown and patronized them ever since. Gone now, so sad.

I remember back then 7-11’s had “Citgo” on their pumps. It didn’t take long for 7-11 national to drop Citgo (and any other brand) from their stores. Now it’s generic gas.

And, 7-11’s gas is not Top-Tier.
Over the last few years, more and more companies have opted to use a Top-Tier level of detergents in their fuel, but there are still a few holdouts.

In my neck of the woods, the only stations that are not Top-Tier are Gulf, 7-11, QuickChek, Delta, Wawa, and–of course the no-name stations.
I would only go to one of those stations if I was very low on gas and nothing else was available.

711 is now the store front for Exxon down here…

Did 7 11 buy Exxon?

The majority of locations will be rebranded as 7-Eleven® stores. The stations will retain the Exxon gasoline brand, allowing consumers to continue to purchase the same high-quality Exxon fuels and use their ExxonMobil credit cards and Speedpass devices.Jan 20, 2012

And some Exxon locations, even the newer ones are now BP stations…

And some of the old BP’s are now Mapco stations…
Can be a little confusing… lol

So basically BP bought out some of the Exxon’s, while 711’s are now the other Exxon’s, and then some other the BP’s that didn’t buy out the Exxon’s were bought out by Mapco express…

I do not blame 7-11 for going Generic on their gasoline. The whole world is so woke, so contentious, so politically correct that one cannot even express a personal decision for themselves, (look what happened to Oprah about the “beef” she had about beef…).

On a personal note, I love 7-11 slurpees and hot dogs, and if others are like me and do not do a calorie, salt, fat check; then they are probably not too concerned with the type of gas going in there cars and “no-name” gas is just fine…

Back on point: In 1997, Oprah featured a show about dangerous food, after the British government announced 10 of its citizens died by eating beef from cows sick with the disease. She said, “It has just stopped me cold from eating another burger.” Which was strictly a personal decision…

I lived in Texas when she said that and I remember the “commotion” (and I do not think that word is strong enough…) that drove the Texas Cattle Industry to sue her. It seems that every burger business in Texas featured signs with Ban Oprah on them… Ultimately, Oprah prevailed, the Burger industry has recovered and now they are having to fight the Methane gas issues…

It seems that numerous countries (the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, and a host of other countries…) are now taking action against business operator (ranchers, farmers, etc…) that have ruminants (hoofed animals including cows, sheep and goats with four-part stomachs) since they are reputed to produce about 15% of human-induced climate emissions, and it is methane from their burps and manure that is seen as both the biggest concern and best opportunity for tackling global heating.

I still eat beef, but I will not let you see me “burp”… LoL…

7-11 is wholly-owned by Seven & i Holdings, a Japanese corporation.
Exxon is an American corporation, and is not owned by the company that operates 7-11.

All the Exxons down here that weren’t changed over to BP stations are now 711 store fronts with Exxon pumps…
What ever you call it or who owns what, that is the way it is here anyway…

All 3 of these gas stations are on the corner that has been there since the 80’s and have always been the same 3 different gas stations up until the last few years… This is a Google view showing all three in the same intersection…

This has been an Exxon since it opened in the 80’s until a few years ago and now it is a 711 with Exxon gas…

This was a BP station since the 80’s up until last year now a Mapco (with the OG Mapco across the road)…

This is the OG Mapco since the 80’s and has never changed… All 3 opened about the same time when the road was built…

One of the newest Exxon’s in the next city about 10 miles away was built a few years ago and is now a BP station as well as a much older BP down the road is now a Mapco…

Everything looks so neat and tidy in that town. Similar gas station photos in this area would show a lot of accumulated debris laying around, tossed fast food bags, sandwich wrappers, street crew debris, etc. Almost certainly a homeless person riding a bicycle towing or carrying a lot of personal debris would appear at least one gas station photo.

George, I think it is culture. Ordinary people putting trash in the container instead of throwing it on the ground. Years ago we were in Detroit during their garbage strike. We went to a park. Tons of people around but trash blowing around everywhere and no one bothered to pick it up. They seemed to think nothing of it. Not my job.

I believe the franchise operator can choose the fuel supplier.

Successful car dealership near us, Porcaro, I keep thinking bought a poor car oh my bad!

Not here, once you get outside of Nashville (BTW those stations are only 16 miles north of Nashville) The police are EVERYWHERE… We have a very low crime rate here (not Nashville) The old saying here and the next city over is the Police will shoot 1st and then ask why you are robbing the place etc etc…

Metro (Nashville) had a guy climb up on a interstate sign waving a gun that closed the interstate down for a day waiting on the nutcase to come down, took way too long to deal with the guy…
Sumner county had a guy try the same thing but on a bridge overlooking the Highway threating to shoot himself, anybody else or jump one, he made the mistake of pointing said gun at the Police officer and was shot, the Police don’t play around here…

No homeless camps, no trash, very clean cities and very, very safe (again, away from Nashville/metro)… We also have great schools!!!
Metro is afraid of hurting some ones feelings, Our local police do what they get paid to do and are VERY SUPPORTED by everyone…

And if people don’t respect or like the way we do things around here then please stay away…

Or maybe the other way around. There is a Mobil station nearby that had a convenience store associated with it. A 7-11 down the road closed and ended up replacing the old convenience store. I doubt that 7 Bank is rich enough to buy Exxon-Mobil.

Doesn’t look like they bought out Exxon, just bought the rights to the retail store part of it… At least in this area…

I can tell you with assurance that they didn’t “buy-out” Exxon.
When I receive their annual report to shareholders, I read it very thoroughly, and there has never been a mention of the massive Exxon-Mobil Corp having been purchased by 7-11.

Our local Mobil station was taken over by the local farmers co-op. They debated changing the name but decided to keep it Mobil. The previous owned had his own tanker truck and would just do his own transport from the refinery. Maybe had to have a particular additive package or something, I dunno. During the bad years we were just happy that he managed to keep the tanks full so we could buy gas. That’s why I still favor that station when everyone else had the no gas signs out. Way back it used to be a Phillips 66 station. Just a matter of a paint job and new signage. I don’t pretend to know all the issues involved.

They can’t just keep to Mobil name, ExxonMobil is pretty particular.
